The Andersen Festival and the “H.C. Andersen – Bay of Fairy Tales”

The Andersen Festival was born in Sestri Levante in 1998 as a complement and extension of the "H.C. Andersen – Baia delle Favole”, the literary competition for unpublished fairy tales which since 1967 has offered creativity and imagination to people of all ages, from children to adults.

This event, eagerly awaited by everyone - Ligurian and non-Ligurian - embodies a tradition and identity that has represented Sestri Levante for a long time, of which we are particularly proud.

These are days of wonder, prodigy and unique shows, often created specifically for the Festival, with big names. Days in which our everyday places are transformed into a stage for dreams and amazement.

With an average attendance of around 80,000 per edition, the Festival offers extraordinary events designed for all ages and Sestri Levante is invaded by artists and companies, with events of all kinds: theatrical and contemporary circus shows, performances, creative workshops, meetings, art and music in the splendid setting of the Baia del Silenzio  - with the stage on the water - and in all the most evocative places of the city of two seas, whose charm is the fundamental ingredient of a success that grows from edition to edition.

Every year a new corner is added to the splendid locations of the Festival: from the Baia del Silenzio to the Baia delle Favole, from the ruins of the oratory of Santa Caterina to the Convento dell’Annunziata, from historic buildings to squares and city streets.
